A new Dialogue in the Dark venue in Mérida

Mérida, in southern Mexico, is known as the "White City" because of its distinctive white architecture, which has characterized the city since its Mayan origins, long before the arrival of Spain more than 500 years ago.

Today, Mérida is one of the most vibrant cities in Mexico due to its thriving tourism, economic and cultural activity, security, and welcoming people.

As of September 19, Dialogue in the Dark is being presented in this city, at the “Museo de la Luz” (Museum of Light), located right in the heart of Mérida.

Our new partner is UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), the most important university in the country, which operates the Museo de la Luz as part of its institutions dedicated to scientific dissemination in Mexico.

In this exhibition, which will be open for 6 months, 14 people with visual disabilities have been employed. The public is invited to experience a one-hour journey through four different areas in complete darkness: Mérida's main square, the colonial city and its traditional market, a mangrove area with a hidden Mayan museum, and a cafeteria.

The Museo de la Luz has also enhanced the Dialogue in the Dark experience by offering parallel exhibits where visitors can learn more about Braille, the functioning of the human eye, eye health, and participate in discussions on topics related to inclusion and visual disability.

We welcome UNAM and the Museo de la Luz to our network of Dialogue partners and thank them for joining our social mission.

We wish you many visitors and hope for a positive impact on your guides with disabilities, your staff, and all who attend.
